They defeated South Africa for the very first time. Yes, they won by 6 in an ODI match.
This exciting game took place in Sharjah. South Africa won the toss & chose to bat first. decision? It turned out to be a big mistake.
The Afghan bowlers were amazing! They quickly sent half of the South African team back to the pavilion, all for just 29 runs. Can you believe it?
The South African team only played 34 overs and got bowled out for 106 runs total. Wyan Milder was their shining star, scoring 52 runs.
On Afghanistan’s side, Fazal Haq Farooqui took 4 wickets, Ghazanfar Ali grabbed 3 wickets, & Rashid Khan picked up 2 wickets.
When Afghanistan stepped up to chase down 107 runs, things didn’t start well at all. Rehmanullah Garbaz went out without scoring any runs! Ouch! Rahmat Shah managed just 8 runs. Both Riyaz Hasan & Rahmatullah Shahidi also made only 16 runs each.
After losing four wickets early, Gulbuddin Naib & Azmatullah Umarzai made a strong effort with their combined 25 runs.
Finally, Afghanistan reached the target and completed their run chase in just 26 overs.
This win marks the very first time Afghanistan has beaten South Africa since they started playing cricket. What a memorable day for them!
